(Program) WorldOregon’s Young Leaders in Action
Who should apply?
What is the commitment?
Attend Monthly Meetings: In order to reach the program goals, Young Leaders in Action requires a commitment of participants’ time and energy. Young Leaders in Action must attend a minimum of 10 of the 12 monthly meetings.
Much of what we will do in the meetings will build on what we have worked on in previous meetings; it is important that you attend the monthly meetings. Most meetings will take place 1:00-4:00pm at the WorldOregon office in southwest Portland.
The anticipated dates for the 2018-2019 meetings are: June 10 (Program Orientation) July 25, August 13, September 23, October 28, November 18, December 16, January 27, February 24, March 17, April 28 (Final Presentations and Recognition Ceremony)
Volunteering/Community Service: Students will work in groups with other participants to organize at least one volunteering/community service activity for the rest of the group. Participants are expected to attend the volunteer activities organized by their peers. Volunteer activities will typically take place on Saturdays. Every participant is expected to attend two volunteer activities.
Work with an Action Project Group: Each participant will work with a group of other students in the program to implement a project during the spring of 2019. The project is designed to take action on an issue of interest, and should focus on a global to local connection. This will require time outside of meetings for research, planning, and action.
Engage with Visitors and the WorldOregon Community: WorldOregon hosts over 500 visitors each year. Many of these visitors are youth, and we look to Young Leaders in Action to both host and to engage in activities/discussions with visiting youth. There are also opportunities for Young Leaders in Action to participate in international exchanges. In addition,
WorldOregon hosts many exciting public events throughout the year on various international topics, and we invite Young Leaders to attend and participate.
