(Program) Summer Business Institute

The Portland State University Summer Business Institute (SBI) offers historically underserved rising high school sophomores and juniors from throughout the Oregon the opportunity to experience college first-hand and prepare for successful enrollment. Students meet with Portland business leaders, engage in college-level coursework, connect with peers from across the state, and participate in a community of peers from across the state.

  • Business 101 course taught by a leading business professional 
  • Learn about various areas in business such as Marketing, Accounting, Business Law, Ethics, Management, and Leadership 
  • Visit corporate sponsors’ headquarters (see past sponsors below)
  • Participate in team-based business plan competition 
  • Attend workshops on the admission process, financial aid, and financial literacy 
  • Collaborate with Portland State University School of Business undergraduate
  • Engagement activities designed to enable you to network in a fun setting
  • On-campus housing 
  • One elective credit to utilize at PSU and other colleges throughout the United States

Eligibility: College-bound rising sophomores and juniors that identify as one or more of the following: first generation, student of color, LGBTQ, Pell Grant eligible, undocumented student
